Privacy & POPIA

Skinbar is designed so your face frames and journal entries stay on your device. This page explains what we do — and what we deliberately do not do.

Summary

The face scan runs in your browser. Video is processed locally to estimate light, evenness and warmth. Gallery images and journal rows are stored in IndexedDB on this device. We do not operate a Skinbar account system that uploads your face to our servers.

Camera

The camera stays off until you tap Open camera. You can close it at any time. Permission is controlled by your browser and operating system. If you deny access, the journal still works.

Local storage

IndexedDB holds journal entries and optional gallery frames. localStorage may hold trial start time and a subscribed flag for the R99/mo trial UI. Clearing site data removes them. We cannot recover wiped local data.

Payments

When PayFast merchant keys are connected, payment details are handled by PayFast, not typed into Skinbar forms beyond what PayFast requires. Until then, checkout shows “coming online” without collecting card numbers.

Advertising & affiliates

We use Google AdSense (publisher pub-9872037945899591) for modest units after content. Ad partners may set cookies subject to your browser settings. Shop links may use Awin affiliate id 2055499; we may earn a commission if you buy.

POPIA

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, we aim to minimise personal information we hold. On-device design means we typically do not receive your biometric imagery. If you email us, we process that correspondence to reply. You may request deletion of any correspondence we hold.

Contact

Questions about privacy: use the contact path listed on skinbar.co.za footer resources, or reach the site operator via the domain WHOIS / hosting account holder for Skinbar.

This page is information about the product’s design, not legal advice. For formal POPIA compliance questions affecting your organisation, consult a practitioner.
